Black Rain – Shōhei Imamura
The Institut Audiovisuel de Monaco presents Shōhei Imamura’s Black Rain at Théâtre des Variétés on 27 October 2026 as part of its “Cinéma retrouvé” series, in partnership with the Embassy of Japan in Monaco.
A powerful reflection on Hiroshima and its aftermath
Imamura’s 1988 film follows Yasuko and her family in the aftermath of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima, focusing on the long-term human consequences rather than spectacle. The film’s black-and-white photography and restrained storytelling give the subject a deeply personal perspective.
The screening is presented in the original Japanese version with French subtitles, continuing the Institut Audiovisuel’s repertory programme dedicated to major works of international cinema.
Good to know
The screening takes place on Tuesday 27 October 2026 from 7:00 PM to 9:30 PM. The event is listed as accessible to people with reduced mobility.
