Xevi Solà – Thoughts of a Bigger Splash at Opera Gallery Monaco
Opera Gallery Monaco presents Spanish painter Xevi Solà’s first solo exhibition in the Principality, bringing together a distinctive selection of new paintings inspired by the swimming pool as a setting for modern life. In rich colour and carefully staged compositions, the artist explores moments of closeness, separation and expectation beneath the idyllic surface of Riviera leisure.
The exhibition
The title pays tribute to David Hockney’s celebrated pool imagery while giving the motif a more introspective direction. Visitors encounter paintings in which poised figures stand by water, appear together without interacting, or wait in atmospheric landscapes. Works including Bamboo, Coupe du Monde, Rendez-vous, Sunrise and Vestiaire explore a subtle tension between public appearance and private emotion.
