Let’s Talk Science – How Did Google Become One of the Digital Giants?
Médiathèque Caroline welcomes economist Dominique Torre on 10 November 2026 for a public lecture examining how Google grew from a search-engine start-up into one of the world’s dominant digital companies. The session forms part of Monaco’s “Parlons Sciences” programme, created to make contemporary scientific and economic questions accessible to a broad audience.
Understanding the rise of a digital giant
The lecture looks at the economic mechanisms behind Google’s expansion, including digital platforms, network effects, data-driven business models and the competitive dynamics that helped a technology company become a global market leader.
Dominique Torre, Professor Emeritus of Economics, guides the audience through the broader economic questions raised by the growth of major digital platforms and explains why companies operating at global scale can develop particularly strong positions in online markets.
Good to know
The lecture takes place on Tuesday 10 November 2026 from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM. Admission is free as part of the public “Parlons Sciences” lecture series, subject to available capacity.
