SUMMARY:The Wedding of the Century on Film and Television – Archival Screening
DESCRIPTION:\nDiscover how television and cinema recorded one of Monaco’s most memorable royal occasions during a special archive screening at Institut Audiovisuel de Monaco on Thursday 10 December 2026. The programme revisits the marriage of Prince Rainier III and Grace Kelly in April 1956 through two contrasting moving-image accounts.\nTwo perspectives on a historic wedding\nTélé Monte-Carlo had been broadcasting for less than two years when it was tasked with recording and transmitting the princely wedding ceremonies to European television audiences. Its extensive footage became the basis of a retrospective tracing the events, preparations and celebrations. The evening also includes Jean Masson’s cinema film Le Mariage de Monaco, inviting viewers to compare television reportage and cinematic storytelling.\nGood to know\nThursday 10 December 2026 at 7:00 PM, in the Institut’s Petite Salle. The local cultural calendar lists a session until approximately 9:00 PM. This is an archive screening rather than a modern feature-film premiere; consult the Institut Audiovisuel for entry conditions, seat availability and any changes.\nAbout the venue\nInstitut Audiovisuel de Monaco, at L’Engelin, 83–85 Boulevard du Jardin Exotique, safeguards film, photography, recordings and television archives associated with the Principality. Its Petite Salle hosts archival presentations and public film events.\nOfficial Screening Details\n\n
